Join the New Orleans DSA and the Orleans Parish Prison Reform Coalition in sending a message to the federal judges who can put a stop to the construction of a new jail facility in Orleans Parish. We'll start the letter writing party off with a short discussion with community organizers on what Phase III expansion is and how we can all work together to stop it!
Federal Judge Lance M. Africk and Magistrate Michael B. North have the power to stop the construction of a Phase III jail facility. We need to demand that they do so. Join us in writing letters to Magistrate North and Judge Africk ahead of this month’s ruling based on the city’s recent submission of a plan *not* to build the proposed new Phase III jail facility.
Your letters to the federal judges will explain why a Phase III jail facility is unnecessary, costly, and dangerous for our city and our community. These letters will be printed and hand delivered to Magistrate North and Judge Africk on the morning of Friday, August 7th.
Let’s make sure federal judges know that New Orleans doesn’t need a new jail facility!
