Since taking office, Governor Landry and the Republican supermajorities in the Legislature have enacted a reactionary criminal punishment regime. These regressive measures will send more people to prison, keep them there longer, fail to prevent new crime, provide no justice for victims, and take millions of dollars from the people to funnel it into the hands of sheriffs, district attorneys, and the private contractors in the prison industrial complex.
